I was surprised that it was as watchable as it was. Based on LaBeouf’s own life, Honey Boy weaves together two timelines as he comes to terms with his ex-rodeo clown father, played by LaBeouf, in a role inspired by his own dad. It’s masterful. This is an amazing film. The only characters that shows any palpable emotions in the film is the abusive father and the pedo neighbor girl which left me uneasy. Overall it was very restrained maybe the director was too obssed with Harmony Korine to portray any emotions other than discomfort.

That's amazing. Also, I might have actually rated this effort higher if I weren't so sick of Amazon jiggering the ratings with the "oh so obvious" one line 5-star ratings. Could have used a coherent story line and/or script I don't know what I was expecting, but this movie exceeds everything. THe director (and writer?)
